"Spending time at the coop with my son has been a way for us to spend quality time together where he doesn't have to compete with his older brothers for attention. I feel like I've joined a community, not just a school." - Allison

Overview

Serving children and their families for over 30 years, the Queen Anne Cooperative Preschool (QACP) is located in the heart of Seattle's Queen Anne neighborhood.

We are a parent-run school that enrolls about 100 children, ages one to five years. Our child-centered philosophy emphasizes socialization and incorporates academics through play.

Parent Volunteers

Parents are an integral part of the success of QACP.  The Membership section provides additional details about in and out-of-class responsibilities.

Classroom Teachers and Parent Educators

QACP employs two professional teachers who develop lesson plans and lead the classes. Teachers and parents alike share responsibilities within each class to ensure that children are engaged in learning and having fun.

A Parent Educator is also assigned to each class.  These childhood experts observe the children and parents during the classes and offer guidance and support.  In addition, Parent Educators lead discussions on a variety of related topics during the monthly parent meetings.

Governance

We are governed by a Board of Directors which consists of a chairperson, vice-chair, treasurer, secretary, admissions chairperson(s), Parent Advisory Council (PAC) representative, class coordinators, teacher (a non-voting member) and parent educator(s) (non-voting members).

Affiliation

We are affiliated with the Seattle Central Community College's Cooperative Preschools Program. Parents whose children are enrolled in QACP are automatically enrolled in the SCCC's Parent Education Program.

Though parents do not earn college credit, the benefit from this affiliation is interaction with a Parent Educator who attends your monthly parent meetings and will periodically be available in the preschool classroom.

Risk Management & Safety

During recent years, QACP has, through it's affiliation with the Seattle Central Community College (SCCC), incorporated risk management procedures into the operation and practices of the preschool. Each year QACP assigns a Risk Management Representative to oversee compliance with SCCC's established safety practices. Our goal is to comply with policy, keep our children safe and not expose the school to risk or unnecessary liability.
