TOTs - Activity Centers (free
play), Music, Hand Wash/Snack, Large Motor, Closing
Children and parents explore the room together. This
is an opportunity for children to experience being in
a large group and to participate in a limited amount of
structured activity during music circle
TWOs - Activity Centers (free
play), Music, Hand Wash/Snack, Large Motor, Closing
For a number of children this is their first opportunity
to work on separation issues. Some of the children are
moving from parallel to interactive peer play thus providing
beginning opportunities for social development. Art activities
will continue to be process rather than product oriented,
there will be exposure to more songs in music circle and
children are encouraged to continue their room exploration.
THREEs - Opening, Activity
Centers (free play), Music, Sharing, Hand Wash/Snack,
Large Motor, Closing
Children are at a level where weekly themes and somewhat
more directed activities are appropriate. Social interaction
is in full swing, so the opportunities to encourage assertiveness,
negotiating, and problem-solving skills are abundant.
Children are advancing in their art skill levels and their
creative play
FOURs - Circle, Sharing, Lunch,
Activity Centers (free play), Music, Large Motor, Story
Children are capable of participating in discussions
and decision-making. They are often able to deal with
peer confrontations without adult intervention. Their
creative play has reached new levels, they are interested
in projects that span longer periods of time, and they
like sharing new knowledge and skills. Although social
development is still our primary goal, there is time spent
on more focused pre-academic skill development through
patterning, graphing ,oral dictation, and group work on
letter and sound recognition. As in each preceding class,
the art, activity and music levels continue to increase
as the children's interests and abilities develop.
As a member of the Queen Anne Cooperative Preschool,
you are enrolled in the Seattle Central Community College's
(SCCC) Parent Education Program. You will not earn college
credit. The benefit you derive from this affiliation is
that a Parent Educator attends your monthly parent meetings
and will periodically be available in the preschool classroom.
Parent Educators are experts in the area of child development.
At parent meetings they answer your questions and facilitate
group discussions on a wide range of topics. Examples
include: how to teach your child the skills that define
emotional intelligence, recognizing how different parenting
styles can affect your child's self esteem, what to expect
at various age levels, and how to teach your young child
basic personal safety skills.
