Member Testimonial

"The Queen Anne Coop has been such a wonderful experience for my son and me.  We're now in our third year with the school and it gets better each year.  He constantly loves exploring the classroom and playing in the warm, upbeat environment." - Zoë

Working In the Classroom

QACP requires a cooperative effort. Every member must work one day a week during in the classroom on his or her scheduled workday. If unable to attend, the member must arrange a substitute (partner, nanny, grandparent, other cooperative parent). Additionally, each parent is responsible for providing snack on a rotating basis.

At the start of the year members are given a tour of the classroom and examples of how to interact with the children in each of the classroom areas (home center, play-dough table, art table, etc.) A typical workday in the classroom involves facilitating social interactions, assisting the classroom teacher, working with the children on a variety of projects and activities, and having fun!

By working in the classroom, parents have the unique opportunity to participate in their child’s first school experience and learn and grow along side them. This interaction is the core of a rich and rewarding cooperative preschool experience.

Parent Meetings

Held monthly between August and May, parent meetings are the primary communication mechanism of the school. At least one parent from each family attends, typically at a member's home, to socialize a bit and then discuss class business with the preschool teacher and their class members, and meet with the parent educator.

Parent meetings are required. Missed meetings can be made up by attending the parent education portion of another class's meeting. Members with two or more unexcused absences will lose their "good standing" status. For more information about parent meeting attendance requirements please see the
Parent Handbook (pdf).

School Jobs

Each member is required to sign up for a school job to support the school's operational needs. Jobs include admissions, scheduling, fundraising, class coordination and more.  A complete list of job descriptions is included in the Parent Handbook (pdf).

Fundraising

Ensuring our school’s financial stability is a crucial part of our job as QACP members. But don't worry; at the Queen Anne Cooperative Preschool we put the “fun” in fundraising with our annual silent and live auction. Each year the auction night is one of the highlights of our experience at QACP. It is a chance to socialize with friends, bid on exciting items, and support our beloved school.

During the year we also have smaller fundraising efforts in which all members are encouraged to participate. At Queen Anne Cooperative we don't look at fundraising as a chore, but as a chance to get to know our school community and provide for it financially.

Parent Handbook

The Parent Handbook (pdf) provides a more complete introduction to the school's philosophy and is a comprehensive resource for information about the preschool's policies and procedures.
