Handbook
The QACP membership consists of the parents or guardians
of children enrolled in the preschool classes.
Parent Meetings
Parent meetings are the primary communication mechanism
of the preschool. Once a month between August and May
at least one parent from each family gathers, typically
at a member's home, to socialize a bit, discuss class
business with the preschool teacher and their class members,
and meet with the parent educator.
Parent meetings are required. Missed meetings can be
made up by attending the parent education portion of another
class's meeting. Members with two or more unexcused absences
will lose their "good standing" status. For
more information about parent meeting attendance requirements
please see the Parent
Handbook (pdf).

In the Classroom
As our name implies, Queen Anne Cooperative Preschool
is a cooperative effort. By working in the classroom one
day a week, cooperative preschool parents have the
unique opportunity to participate in their child’s
first school experience and learn and grow along side
them. This interaction is the core of a rich and rewarding
cooperative preschool experience. Every member must work
in the classroom on his or her scheduled workday, or arrange
for a member substitute (partner, nanny, grandparent,
other cooperative parent) if they are unable to attend.
Working in the classroom provides many opportunities to
interact with the children on their level.
A typical workday in the classroom involves facilitating
social interactions, assisting the classroom teacher,
working with the children on a variety of projects and
activities, and having fun! At the start of the year members
are given a tour of the classroom and examples of how
to interact with the children in each of the classroom
areas (home center, play-dough table, art table, etc.)
In addition to these classroom activities, each parent
is responsible for providing snack on a rotating basis.

School Jobs
QACP emphasizes socialization and incorporates academics
through play - the way children learn best. Parents, through
participation, observation, and parent education, gain
skills in child guidance and learn how to meet the students'
physical, mental, social, and emotional needs.

Fundraising
Ensuring our school’s financial stability is a
crucial part of our job as QACP members. But don't worry;
at Queen Anne Cooperative Preschool we put the “fun”
in fundraising with our annual silent and live auction.
Like all QACP events, we offer a number of ways for members
to fulfill their fundraising participation requirement.
Each year the auction night is one of the highlights of
our experience at QACP. It is a chance to socialize with
friends, bid on exciting items, and support our beloved
school.
During the year we also have smaller fundraising efforts
in which all members are encouraged to participate. We
often sell QACP T-shirts that the kids and parents wear
with pride for years to come, sell car wash coupon books,
or offer a school cookbook filled with delicious member
contributed recipes. At Queen Anne Cooperative we don't
look at fundraising as a chore, but as a chance to get
to know our school community and provide for it financially.

Parent Handbook
The Parent
Handbook (pdf) is essential reading for both
prospective and active Queen Anne Cooperative Preschool
members. Updated annually, it provides a more complete
introduction to the school's philosophy than space allows
on this web site. In addition, it is a comprehensive resource
for information about the preschool's policies and procedures.
